Giving Time Its Meaning: The Humble Dandelion Carries the Great Dream of Rural Revitalization

2026.07.15

Amid the hundred-acre fields of Nanniwan Town, Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province, clusters of dandelions sway in the breeze. Behind the sea of green lies JumpCan Pharmaceutical's long-term strategic deployment to address the challenge of sourcing raw materials for TCM and contribute to rural revitalization. From land circulation to cultivation training, from stable income to ecological protection, this unassuming herb has transformed into a new hope for farmers to "get rich at their doorstep."

From "Subsistence Field" to "Prosperity Field"

Nanniwan Town is situated in the hilly and gully region of the Loess Plateau. In the past, farmers mainly grew corn and buckwheat, but with meager returns. Li Shijun from Jinzhuang Village still remembers the hardship: "Before, growing corn earned 300 yuan per mu — sometimes we even lost money. Now, with land rent plus labor wages, 5 mu of land can earn nearly 20,000 yuan a year!" He patted his pocket: "The wallet is full, and the burden on the kids is lighter."

"Wages are never delayed — pay comes right after each work cycle!" Gao Xiquan, a veteran Party member from Mafang Village, praised the base's "promptness" unreservedly. What moved him even more was the transformation of labor intensity — farm tools and machinery are all provided uniformly by the company, with technical staff stationed in the fields to provide guidance. "Before, we struggled with seeds and fertilizers on our own; now all we need to do is take care of the dandelions — much less stressful and labor-intensive than working alone before!" This stable and relatively relaxed work means that many middle-aged and elderly people like him no longer need to leave home to work elsewhere; they can achieve the goal of earning more income while staying close to family, right at their doorstep.

Strict Quality Control, Saying No to "Depending on the Weather"

The dandelion — seemingly an ordinary herb — is the core raw material for the company's flagship product, Pudilan Xiaoyan Oral Liquid. However, the quality of dandelions on the market varies greatly. How to ensure that people drink a more authentic Pudilan? JumpCan's choice is to build its own medicinal material base!

In June 2024, the company joined hands with its partner, Yan'an Agricultural Investment Group Xuanyuan Pharmaceuticals, to launch a standardized dandelion cultivation project in Nanniwan. But building the base was not easy — the first hurdle was finding a partner: entities that simultaneously met the requirements of good infrastructure, experienced technology, and autonomous cultivation capability were very rare. Only after multiple rounds of screening, communication, and on-site investigation was a partner finally confirmed.

In the early stages of the project, the company specially invited technicians from Henan to provide on-site guidance, gradually overcoming technical challenges from seed mixing to irrigation. Today, the demonstration field is lush and green, serving as a "showroom" for surrounding farmers. To ensure partners can concentrate wholeheartedly on growing quality medicinal materials, the company conducted in-depth research on industry benchmarks and ultimately determined a pricing model of "long cycle + fixed price + floating mechanism."

To make the "quality checkpoint" more solid, JumpCan has put in considerable effort — establishing and operating a dandelion GAP system specifically, and through implementing "six unifications + traceability" management, ensuring the "origins and whereabouts" of every leaf are completely clear, providing solid assurance for high-quality medicinal material production.

Facing the industry bottleneck of "unstable chicoric acid levels across multiple harvests" for home-grown dandelions, the company joined forces with experts from Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine and Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences to collect 126 batches of germplasm resources from 66 cities across 20 provinces nationwide — all with the aim of breeding a new variety with "optimal quality across three harvests." At the same time, through deep "industry-university-research" cooperation, the company has accelerated the landing of project achievements and built a brand matrix including TCM medicinal material GAP certification. "This is not something that produces immediate results," the base director acknowledged, "but when we think about the future when thousands of households will drink better-quality Pudilan, we find the motivation to persevere."

The "Mutual Journey" of Green Development and Shared Prosperity

This dandelion base is not only a medicinal material source guarantee for the company, but also an experimental ground for green agriculture. Through a "dandelion + soybean rotation" crop rotation mechanism, the base breaks the common pest and disease cycle, reduces fertilizer dependency, maintains soil fertility, and achieves a win-win of industry and ecology.

Today, JumpCan's dandelion cultivation footprint is continuously expanding — starting from the demonstration field in Nanniwan, Yan'an, a base in Hanshan County, Anhui Province has also brought surrounding farmers into cultivation, and exploration of the feasibility of planting on Jiangsu Province's coastal saline-alkali land has begun. The future base scale will continue to expand, striving to meet 15%–20% of the company's annual dandelion usage, fortifying the medicinal material supply chain from the source.

In the eyes of the base cultivation team, this is not only about ensuring pharmaceutical quality from the source, but also a practice of "Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets": "We will take the dandelion base as a model, promote the base cooperation model to bitterweed and other company strategic medicinal materials, hoping to benefit more places through our cultivation technology, turning barren land into fertile soil, and letting local people lead better, more hopeful lives at their doorstep."

JumpCan Pharmaceutical's dandelion cultivation base is a wave in the great tide of rural revitalization, reflecting the company's responsibility and commitment to taking root in the countryside and helping farmers prosper. In the future, JumpCan Pharmaceutical will continue to proceed steadily — from building systems and expanding scale to strengthening quality — allowing the experience of the "humble dandelion" to nurture more "big industries" that enrich the people, contributing JumpCan's strength to China's rural revitalization.
